Newsletter - February 2011

Welcome to the February edition of our newsletter. With Spring just around the corner and the thought of better weather on its way, some of you may be considering getting fit. Our interview with fitness expert Judy Di Fiore who specialises in helping new mums get back into shape, may be just what you to launch you on your way. Judy's company, Pushy Mums, organises outdoor exercise classes for mums with babies in buggies in tow, and we hope our interview will offer some encouragement if you're in need of a fitness boost.

For those of you who are considering going back to work, or thinking of looking for a new job, the prospects can seem rather gloomy in the current economic climate. Entrepreneur James Caan has a new book out, How to get the job you really want, and we are featuring some of his expert advice to help you get ahead in the job market.

Recent reports, that the current advice on when to start weaning babies may not be correct, has understandably left some of you feeling confused and a little anxious.  The Department of Health has issued a statment that it continues to recommend "that babies are exclusively breast fed until the age of six months".

My new book; The Contented Little Baby Book of Top Tips for Weaning is due out shortly. We have some special free review copies of the book to give away to the first ten of you to send your full name and address to sophie@contentedbaby.com  I have also been developing some recipes with So-baby organics, and we are looking for parents of babies aged between six months and one year who are interested in trying free samples of the forth-coming recipes. Again please email sophie@contentedbaby.com

Trying to establish a good sleep routine can be difficult and some of you find settling your child can sometimes cause real problems. My top tips this month focus giving you some points for consideration if you are having problems settling your baby.

I believe one of the key elements when establishing a sleep routine is to look at how dark your baby's room is. Recently many of you have recommended the Easyblackout blind from easyblinds which come with a Velcro-like edging, making it simple to keep out any chinks of light at bedtime or early in the morning. If you're interested in trying some Easyblackout blinds, we have six sets to give away, and the first ten of you to get in touch with sophie@contentedbaby.com will be the lucky recipients.

This month in the members only section we are addressing the concerns  of those of you who are unsure when to drop the late feed. Life coach, Maria Sweetman looks at ways to make the most of the time we have with our children by making the ordinary extraordinary and our case study is about Megan aged 12 months who started to wake several times a night and stand at the end of her cot.

Finally, amongst all the other events in your lives, It's Valentine's Day this month, which isn't always a priority when you are busy with a young family. It can be all too easy to neglect your relationship, so we''re featuring some tips on making time for one another and I hope that you find a space to do something special together for Valentine's Day. It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. celebrating over a glass of wine once the children have gone to bed can make all the difference!

Best wishes to you all for a happy Valentine's Day.
